Together, we will explore different ways to think about and create poetry. Following the traditions and pedagogy of författarskolan, we will make use of generative writing exercises, close readings, group discussions and the workshop.
We will read the work of notable English-language poets from a variety of traditions, styles and practices including Bernadette Mayer, Terrance Hayes, Lucie Brock-Broido, and Fady Joudah.
The core elements of poetry such as form, imagery and voice will be encountered alongside experimentation and alternative approaches. Above all, we will prioritize focused time for writing.
All are welcome, from published poets to motivated beginners – or those who just want to improve their English.
Kursledare
Max Alletzhauser
is a poet and translator. He is the author of ‘The Veil’ (2022) and translator of Anders Olsson’s poetry into English. He is currently working on an experimental book of sonnets in English and Swedish, called ‘Hypersonnet’. He has an MA in English Literature from Uppsala University and attended Biskops Arnös författarskolan.
Elizabeth Clark Wessel
is the author of the poetry collection ‘None of It Belongs to Me’ (2024), and most recently the chapbook ‘Everything Small Is Moving’ (2026). Her poetry has appeared widely in journals and magazines, including the American Poetry Review, Boston Review, and Fence. She received an MFA in poetry and literary translation from Columbia University, where she taught in the undergraduate writing program, and is co-founder of the independent poetry press Argos Books.
Together they have run the Contemporary Poetry study circle at Hägerstensåsens Medborgarhus since 2024.
